WelcomeHappy New Year 2012. It certainly does not feel like Winter yet. We have had such glorious warm days. I hope all of your holidays were wonderful and now we are ready to settle in and refocus on our learning. I think our students are very excited to be back with their friends and eager to take on new challenges. On behalf of the staff, I would like to thank everyone for your beautiful family photos, the heart warming cards, the baked goods and all the special treats you sent our way. You are an amazing and generous community of parents. I also want to thank you for your continued support of the acquisition of our technological tools. We are actually setting up stations in classrooms with the ipads that are being donated and I am happy to say that each classroom now has a document camera and a projector. Many of our classrooms have a new laptop too, thanks to Donor’s Choose and our parent support. We are moving forward with our staff development in the area of technology and learning how to implement technology into our curriculum. I have seen some amazing lessons and I am impressed with the level of learning and collaboration that is taking place with our fantastic staff.
Plan ahead for our Read-A-Thon, Read All Day, PJ Day and Doughnuts with Dads all happening on January 20th. We have three goals with these events. First, is to encourage literacy and the love of reading. Second, is to have our students see their dads as readers to encourage the male population to enjoy reading. Third, it is to raise funds to support our absolutely fabulous Paraeducators. Please support our Read-A-Thon in whatever way you can.
We have a very special Family Math Night being planned for April 2nd. Students will enjoy math activities during the day and parents can come with their students that evening to enjoy a Family Math Festival. This is a school-wide event to expose students and parents to critical mathematical topics in a positive, festival-like atmosphere featuring hands-on activities. This is a California Mathematics Council event that is Standards-based and a lot of fun. Mark your calendar now. PTA is discussing adding dinner to this event as well so that you can come, eat dinner and then have some math fun as a family. More details will come home as we get closer to April.
We are moving into Super Bowl time and we sure hope the 49er’s are there. I am sure we could give them some great lessons on Team Work as we have such a great TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) at Vista Grande. Thank you for making our TEAM so special. Enjoy the Winter months. Pat Hansen Principal NewsThird community forum (related to potential facilities bond) at Monte Vista High School - February 2nd
