Thank you to everyone for signing up for a conference. We look forward to meeting you all while attending your child’s conference. We have set some great goals that are appropriate for your child’s success in school. As always if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us at joneill@srvusd.net or Julie's cell # (925) 963-6460 or kkjelsberg@srvusd.net or karen's cell # (925) 389-8757.

Our curriculum is packed with exciting new material for your students.

Reading:  We have finished reading In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson ,  Tiger Rising and are now reading Wonderstruck . We  also spend time each day working in Reader’s Workshop where all students read their own text and we have many different focuses  in these texts.

Writing:  We are focusing our writing on taking information with text, showing how to take notes and transform those notes into paragraphs. We are also focusing on Realistic Fiction and are going to begin writing great stories. We are so excited to be using Lucy Caulkins Reading and Writers Workshop as our backbone to our program for the 8th straight year.

Math:. We are working on Area and perimeter and beginning double-digit multiplication using area models.  We have also giving them enrichment activities to create deeper thinking in these areas. As you are aware, we are also registered with Zearn which is an online math program which aligns with Eureka Math and allows students to transfer their information to a computer based program similar to our state testing.

Social Studies:  This year’s focus is CALIFORNIA. We completed studying the counties (  still collecting of few postcards).  We also completed an in depth study of the California symbols. . We are working on the 4 regions of California. Following this study, we will discuss the California Indian tribes.

Newscast: We have started our Newscast presentations. They are doing an amazing job for first time around!! They have all the information in their binders.

We are so fortunate to have the pleasure of teaching your student this year.

For all things in life be thankful,

            Mrs. O’Neill and Mrs. Kjelsberg
