Principal Message

Dear Vista Grande Students and Families,

I am honored to begin my second year as the Principal of Vista Grande Elementary School. I am thankful that I had the opportunity during my first year as principal to build relationships with so many of our families and students, staff, and teachers during the 19-20 school year.  Vista Grande is a special place surrounded with caring teachers, amazing parents, and wonderful students. I know our families spend many hours volunteering in classrooms and supporting our school monetarily to give their children the best education they can receive. The phrase, “it takes a village to raise a child,” really rings true with the climate and culture of Vista Grande.

This school year we will begin a bit differently due to Covid-19. Our teachers are excited to get to know all their new students and are planning lessons and curriculum that will enhance our remote learning  model. Our paraeducators will work along side our teachers to enhance and support our students as we venture these challenging times. Our Science, PE, Vocal Music & Instrumental Music, Technology, Art, and Library will also support our students and ensure we are balancing both their academic and social emotional well-being.

As I begin my 22nd year in education, I would like to share my educational journey to becoming Vista Grande’s Principal. I began my teaching career in 1998 in a 3rd grade classroom and taught elementary school for 10 wonderful years where I also enjoyed teaching 2nd, 4th, and 5th grade. I earned my administrative credential as a 4th year teacher, so when the opportunity arose, I switched grade levels. I wanted to know what it felt like to teach many different levels and understand the developmental needs of many age ranges. I then transitioned to middle school where I taught 7th grade Core for 5 years, two of which I also taught 2 sections of physical education. In 2014, I transitioned out of the classroom and was honored to serve as the Assistant Principal at Diablo Vista Middle School, which was an extremely enriching experience, and ultimately prepared me for my role as principal.

I grew up in the City of Walnut Creek, where my husband and I still live and raise our two wonderful children. Our daughter will begin her sophomore year, and our son will be an 8th grader. Not only did I attend both the schools they attend, I also taught at my son's Middle School and am so pleased to know that my children are also part of a supportive and nurturing community where they will continue to learn and grow.

I am pleased to be back on an elementary school campus and enjoy getting to know all of our incredible students. I do not take this title lightly, as I am committed to working closely with our students, parents, teachers, staff and community of Vista Grande. I look forward to seeing all the learning that will take place this year and am hopeful we will get to return to our beautiful campus once it is safe to do so. We will continue to get updates from the State, County and School Board to guide us.

Here's to a great new school year together as a "TEAM" Together Everyone Achieves More!!!

Respectfully yours,

Osi Juergens
